Referee Courses

Referee Training is coordinated through Alberta Soccer with courses hosted throughout the province.  To see details on the courses scheduled and additional information on the Referee Pathways please follow the link to the Alberta Soccer site


How to register for a course:

Once you have identified which course to register in, follow the "register" link beside each course where you will be redirected to the Ref Centre website where you can search courses by date. Choose the course you are looking for and follow the registration instructions.

After completing the online registration and if there is a course fee for any of the below courses, you must call the CUSA office at 403-270-0363 to make payment (if required) to be registered in the course.

Entry Level Courses

Who is this course for? Referees 14 years and older

About: Students will familiarize themselves with the applications of the Laws of The Game in general and also learn the principals of the Look Sharp, Be Sharp program. You will practice proper whistling, arm directions and basic foul recognition at the course and there is also an assistant referee segment. You will be required to write a final exam which you must pass to complete the course. Course length is 16 hours over a Saturday and Sunday and you MUST attend the full course to pass

Note: If you were a Mini referee before but now want to register for the Entry level course,
you will need to register with a new e-mail address and password


Adult Refresher Courses


Who is this course for? Referees who has taken an Entry Level course in the past will need to take an Adult Refresher course every spring and fall

NOTE: You must log into your E2E Ref Centre account. When you login, mouse over "Registration" and then click "Refresher courses". You will need to answer a series of referee questions before choosing a course date.

Adult/Youth (14+) Indoor Boarded Conversion Course

Who is this course for? A referee who has taken the Adult/Youth Entry level course in the spring but has never refereed Indoor soccer as an adult/youth (14+) will need to take an Indoor Conversion course. Mini-referee experience does not apply.

About: This course is designed to educate the referee in the rules of Indoor boarded soccer only. This is a 7 hour course shared between classroom and on field activities. You must pass the Entry Course to be able to register in this conversion course

Course fee: FREE

This course is only available in the fall to compliment the Entry Level referees from the spring courses.
