Play-Ups / Guest Players - Indoor 2025 Season


Rule 8.1.5 Teams are eligible to have up to 4 guest players in a match.

 

Below is a summary of play up and guest player rules. FULL RULES - Pg. 23-26

Please Note: Players and teams are 100% responsible for tracking all play-ups/guest players throughout the season. The player statistics shown on the website are intended to be a resource for teams and players but may not be 100% current and accurate.

 

Boardless Program

Men’s Open (Major to Division 5/Men's U23)

  • Players can only play up for their club team if they are registered in a lower division club team of the same name. 
  • Examples of this rule:
    • Blizzards Div 5 player plays up for a higher division Blizzards team - ALLOWED.
    • Blizzards Div 5 player plays up for a higher division non-Blizzards team - NOT ALLOWED.
    • U23 Calgary West player plays up for a higher division non-Calgary West team - NOT ALLOWED.
    • Div 4 player plays up for a team with a different name in Div 1 - NOT ALLOWED.
  • Players can only play up for a non-club team if the two teams are affiliated. Contact CUSA about team affiliations.
  • Players can play up a maximum of 6 games per team. Playing up for a 7th time = automatic transfer. 
  • No guest players allowed from other programs (Boarded, COED and Futsal)

 

Master’s Elite Competitive

Age Category:  35 as of Jan 1st, 2026

  • Players are eligible to play up for Men's Open - Division 3 and above ONLY
  • Players can play up a maximum of 6 games per team.
  • NOT allowed to play down into O45.
  • No guest players allowed from other programs (Boarded, COED and Futsal)

 

Master’s Premier (Not Applicable for Indoor Season)

Age Category:  35 as of Jan 1st, 2026

  • Eligible for Master’s Elite and Men's Open - any division.
  • Players can play up a maximum of 6 games per team.
  • The Master’s players who are over 45 years of age may play down into O45 A.
  • No more than 2 Master’s Premier players per O45A game.
  • No guest players allowed from other programs (Boarded, COED and Futsal)

 

Master’s 1 & lower

Age Category:  35 as of Jan 1st, 2026

  • Eligible to play up for any team in Master’s Competitive, and Men's Open.
  • Players can play up a maximum of 6 games per team.
  • Master's players who are 45 years of age and older:
    • can guest play down for any O45 team for an unlimited number of games
    • no more than 2 Masters’ players may play down per game per team.
  • No guest players allowed from other programs (Boarded, COED and Futsal)

 

Over 45

Age Category:  45 years old prior to registration 

  • Can play up unlimited per team with any Master’s, Men's Open or higher Over 45 division team.
  • O45A players are NOT allowed to play down for O45B.
  • Only the Over 45C division can cross-over for guest play. For example, an O45C-1 player can guest play for a team in O45C-2. (Not Applicable for Indoor).
  • No guest players allowed from other programs (Boarded, COED and Futsal)

 

Over 55

Age Category:  55 years old prior to registration

  • Can play up unlimited per team with any O45, Master's or Men's Open teams. 
  • May guest play on any O55 team within their program. Players cannot play against their registered team.
  • No guest players allowed from other programs (Boarded, COED and Futsal).

 

Boarded Program

  • Competitive is the highest division and the Recreational groups are the lowest.
  • Recreational players can play up into Competitive only, for a maximum of 6 times per team.
  • Recreational players can guest play across groups i.e. Recreational A player can guest play for a team in Recreational B, and vice versa.
  • Recreational players NOT allowed to guest play for a team in their grouping.
  • Masters O35 players can play up to any Men's Open teams.
  • O45 players can play up to any Masters or Men's Open teams. 
  • O45A players are NOT allowed to play down for O45B.
  • O45B players are allowed to guest play for a team within the O45B group. Players cannot play against their registered team.
  • No guest players allowed from other programs (Boardless, COED and Futsal)

 

Coed Boarded Program

  • Teams are eligible to have up to 4 guest players in a match.
  • Players may guest onto any team in their same group, or any group/division ABOVE. With the re-introduction of tiered groups - Rec A, Rec B, Ultra Rec A, and Ultra Rec B, please be aware that Ultra Recreational A players cannot play down to Ultra Recreational B, and Recreational A players cannot play down to Recreational B.
  • Players cannot play against their registered team. 
  • Players may be a guest player 6 times per team.
  • No guest players allowed from other programs (Boardless, Men's Boarded and Futsal)

 

Futsal Program

  • No guest players allowed - players must be registered with the team to play with the team.
  • A maximum of 2 guest players allowed in Futsal.
